A Rival is kind of a sub-boss in the Street Fighter series, demonstrating a positive or negative relationship between certain characters. This feature first appeared in the main series in Street Fighter Alpha in which different characters have different final bosses.

In the Mortal Kombat series, a Rival is an enemy for an certain character. Due to the game's nature, those rivals are fighting to death because of many motivations. Examples includes revenge or more common, betrayal.

In Two Worlds Collide, the rivaliries between are matched by the similarity of story or appearance.
